Home Team Report:

Home Team Report by Tom Howick.

There was plenty of anticipation for this big clash between 2nd and 3rd. A win for Staines would see them become big favourites to take 2nd. A win for Knaphill and suddenly it was all to play for again.

It was also a big boost to see no Andy for Knaphill, especially after his historic 3-0 championship win over Matt ford. That boost was short lived as we soon found out that his replacement, Paul Ganley, has in fact beaten Andy in the following round.
Anyway, onto the match. First up was Danny ‘The Droid’ Hocking, who’d clearly spent far too much time on insta this week and not enough time on the practice table. He had chances but Ryan swept him aside to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Next up was a big frame. Staines knew that Sean would be playing frames 3 and 4 so a win for Danny would see us favourites for a 3-1 lead. Danny and Paul both struggled to get going and it looked nervy. Danny managed to win a tight frame on the black to level the match. Fair play to Paul who was sporting in defeat.
Next up was Sean ‘The Chainsaw’ Harvey. Fresh from a fantastic effort in making the semi finals of the English Amateurs over the weekend, it was clear he was in good form. Both James and Ryan soon found this out as Sean comfortably won frames against both of them including a lovely 69 break against Ryan, giving Staines a 3-1 lead. All this despite the distraction of having no hair product in. Sean added that it was ‘the best 69 he’d had for quite some time’, so I’m hoping none of his exes read this report.
Finally it was Lewis ‘The Clown’ Frampton. A bit of pressure had been taken off due to the 3-1 lead. Sadly, you wouldn’t have thought this was the case from the performance. He was tweaking balls left, right and centre. Despite this, he managed to scrape past Paul giving Staines a crucial win.
It’s great to see Lewis back in the league. We snapped him up knowing how good he can be and how good he was. If we had known how bad he’d become we may not have done but you can’t live life with regrets... and now we are stuck with him.
Fair play to James who held it together to win a big final frame and keep Knaphill just about in the hunt for 2nd. 4-2 final score!
All in all a good night and a great result for Staines.
