Away Team Report:
Our trip to the reigning champions ended in defeat but we gave a spirited account of ourselves.

Like all elite players, Matt is always able to shift up a gear when required. He did so at key moments in both frames against Andy. An early run of 32 in the opener gave him control; and then, in the second frame, he was 45 ahead before Andy got a decent chance. Andy was then unlucky to snooker himself in the balls. The escape was trickier than it appeared and costly. Another trademark long pot red by Matt - drilled in with laser-like precision - set him on the road to a 33 clearance to the pink and put Windlesham 2 - 0 up.

Ian's early break of 31 was slowly reeled back by Chris in frame three. It then took a tactical turn, as Ian displayed nous and experience to set a series of subtle snookers. There was a sense of him "turning the screw" but Chris was equal to the challenge. One escape involved going round three cushions to hit the final red but Chris made it. Chris later fluked it but there was no position on a colour and he then needed a snooker again. An ultimately fruitless quest.

We're determined to enjoy the ride this season and Chris wasn't unduly downhearted. He found his touch in frame four. The key shot was a lovely long yellow which also cannoned the green into open play. Chris cleared to the blue and - shortly afterwards - deservedly got a frame on the board.

I had good run against Nick in both frames. He made a 24 in each but I was able to stay in touch. Indeed, the final frame went to the pink but I left it up after mis-hitting an attempted safety.

An enjoyable evening played in a very nice atmosphere. Good luck to Windlesham for the rest of the season.
