Home Team Report: An honourable draw was fought out in Sunbury’s first home match of the season, the night started brightly with some furniture arrangements that would have been easily mistaken for just oil protesters, Harvey showing why he’s the peoples champion swooning in to take over with the hoovering…..sorry you had to be there. Any way after a slight delay play commenced with Fraser taking on Cohen, after last week’s debacle with Fraser not being able to see one end of the table from the other, he was straight into stride with his new “Dennis’s” Fraser led by 30 early on only for Cohen to pot his customary long balls with deep screw and claw his way back into it, it was nip and tuck to the pink when Cohen played a poor safety and went in off leaving Fraser a straight forward pink in hand to black which he duly potted. Second frame continued with Cohen potting balls off the lampshade again another close affair this time Cohen doing enough on the colours to claim a 1 apiece. Next up Connors and the Asian Flavour Mr Singh, the “flavour” started well however missed a straight red to the black pocket, Connors potted the red leaving a thin black to its own pocket, he missed the black and went in off to the middle, from there Jaf crafted a nice 45 break only missing a mid range red, that was more and enough to give the away side the lead Second frame continued in the same fashion with Jaf leading throughout, Connors had a golden opportunity to clear after Jaf had gone in off, one red left Connors potted the red only to miss a dolly of a yellow off its spot, an exact same shot he’s missed in the first frame, there was some obscenities bellowed from the home player after that was missed. Any how the frame came down to the black after Connors had potted a green from distance, tricky brown, straight blue and the second attempt on the pink, Connors attempted the quarter ball black to its own pocket, missing it by hitting it half ball, black ran safe, after a couple of safety shots each Connors attempted to put the black on the side rail and the white on the opposite cushion, however this was butchered and Jaf had a routine black to its own pocket for frame 3-1 Last up the captain and 900 doubles champion Mr Harvey to play the highly talented Andy Chauhan. After a few early exchanges Andy had the first good scoring opportunity, after potting a few reds a blacks he missed a black off its spot by the preverbal this seemed to throw the left hander off his stride, Harvey punished this mistake and took firm control of the frame narrowing the scoreline to 3-2. Last frame of the evening again was bossed by the peoples champion, playing some real hard core match snooker, he had Andy in trouble with a safety shot that had to be put back a few times as Andy careered into the pink on a couple of occasions, on his third attempt he hit the red to thick and left the balls at the mercy of the home captain, Harvey put together a thirty odd break than ran for cover, not long after that the hand was offered by Andy, 3-3. On reflection a fair result, both teams chewed the fat over some sandwiches and a beverage afterwards, with plenty of stories from the “flavour” the best being about doors being locked after snooker matches……TC
