Away Team Report:
We were on the receiving end of a second successive whitewash, but this one included two black-ball finishes and was a very enjoyable evening overall.

The opening frame was the most compelling of the night. Darren looked sharp immediately and lead by 34 with the reds wide open. However, once Andy found his touch, he looked terrific and made a crisp 43: his best break for our team and highest in the league for at least ten years.  This classic “frame of two halves” wasn’t done yet. Leading by 11, Andy was unlucky to go in-off the blue, but he made amends almost immediately with a superb long pot. However, he didn’t get a chance on the pink. Instead, it was Darren who sank a brave pot into the middle with the white tight in the jaws on the opposite top corner pocket. Black followed and Sunbury led 1-0.

Undeterred, Andy made the early running in frame two. Darren replied with a stylish 42 and then held a lead throughout the colours that he didn’t relinquish.

Seven wins in eight now for Alan, who controlled both frames against Kelvin with typical assurance and panache. As usual, he hit the ball sweetly, with an early break of 29 in frame three the main example. You sense he’s on the cusp of making another really big break and is definitely one of the Prem players to watch this campaign.

I played pretty well but again couldn’t convert a healthy lead into a win against Trevor. The turning point in frame five came when I was snookered on the yellow, missed twice and then went-in off having hit it at the third attempt. I later had a tricky cut-back on the pink for the frame, but instead it was Trevor who got over the line with a bold double on the black. The difference between us across both frames (as it has been so many times in the past) is Trevor’s superior potting at key moments. I will battle on and keep trying to improve.

All the best to Sunbury for the rest of the season.
