Bang - the sound of the home team crashing down to earth!

Home Team Report:
Our recent upturn in both performances and results came to a shuddering halt as Sunbury completed a routine win.

The opener was a frame of three thirds: Darren dominated the early part and close. Kelvin came back well during the middle. An early break of 33 put Darren in control and highlighted the pinpoint positional play and touch that’s typical of him at his best. Kelvin reduced the deficit and was still in the game on the yellow. He potted it but simultaneously touched the brown with his sleeve, which proved crucial. Darren later potted the brown from distance and Sunbury were on their way.

Darren was off-and-running immediately with a 38 in frame two. Chris replied with a 21 and trailed by 20 with two reds left. Darren laid a snooker on the last one, which forced Chris to play up-and-down the length of the table. He missed by a fraction and left it up, along with all the remaining colours which were already open. Darren cleared to the pink with a 24.

Alan is enjoying a fine season and richly deserves his place among the elite in the Prem stats (79% win ratio). Only Billy Castle and Matt Ford are above him. Wins against Kelvin and Chris proved straightforward and a break of 25 would clearly have been much higher were it not for a horrendous kick on the black. As ever, he struck the white sweetly and with real panache throughout both frames. He’s clearly a contender for the various competitions he’s entered, as well. Don’t bet against the Sunbury Storm!

I was as bad this week as I’d been good at Surrey Academy only a week before. Trevor suffered a terrible run of the ball throughout both our frames and was unlucky to rattle frame-ball pink and leave it over the jaws in frame five. I followed-up with the black for a win I didn’t deserve. I then threw away a golden chance in the closer, playing two idiotic shots on the colours: trying to cut the brown down the cushion into the green pocket when a safety around the angles was the obvious shot. The brown stayed up and the white flew into the opposite corner. I was still in the frame on the blue but left that up playing safe and Trevor finally put me out of my misery.
