Home Team Report: West Byfleet got their season off to a great start with a well deserved and impressive win. Martin Doherty played very well in the opening match and was rarely threatened. He ran out a convincing winner. Tony Charlton looked to be taking 3 points by a big margin having played some nice stuff but Dave Wood after scrambling to his hundred and two points suddenly clicked into overdrive and nearly turned the match on its head. They were going in from everywhere. Fortunately Tony held himself together to seal the win. In the decider Michael Doherty seemed determined not to be outshone by his brother and raced into a big lead. Potting excellently and cueing very smoothly he was unstoppable up until he reached 115. At this point Martyn was like a boxer on the ropes having been pummelled. He responded brilliantly to claw back the 40 or 50 points that he at one time was behind and got to within two points of his faltering opponent. Micheal then made a crucial 17 break with the aid of a fortunate pot red whilst missing the intended cannon, and finally got over the winning line. He played well enough to have beaten most players until faltering two thirds of the way through. On this performance West Byfleet will have some fun this season and put last seasons disappointing points tally way behind them. A great night as always when the 'Drink Like A Fish' boys are involved and if only they can stay intoxicated they will cause teams many problems. KJ
