Home Team Report:
With both teams needing points for different reasons this was always going to be a tricky and hard fought match. In the first frame Paul got off to a lively start but Dan appeared to be struggling and with score at 128 - 64 in Pauls favour the writing looked to be on the wall. Then the game completely turned around and Dan started to reduce the deficit culminating in a good 28 break leaving Dan needing 6 to win, with Paul on 147 he missed a pot red and left Dan a possible 6 shot to win but he missed. Paul potted the red to win a very entertaining game. In frame 2 I played John which turned out to be a bit of a dour affair. I always try to play billiards but as needs must I had to revert to a fair bit of double baulking which I hate doing. John potted superbly well all through the game but was unlucky on several in off attempts. I must admit that I had the majority of the run and even fluked the winning shot. The match was now level and as Mark had beaten Jim in the away fixture we were hopeful of getting the win. If you read last years report on this game you will be very surprised at the similarities and I going to report the same sort of thing. That “wily old fox” Jim Angus played superbly on our table again repeating his high break of last year 47 to get his high break of this year. I don’t know whether he likes our table or whether he was taking out his frustration after being on the wrong end of that huge break the previous week. Mark uncharacteristically missed a few shots early on and left some easy openings and at one point looked in danger of not getting anything from the game but he rallied and started to play like we know he can but unfortunately was too far behind to bridge the gap and Jim ran out the worthy winner. A 6-9 loss is a bad result for us but not disastrous, we still have to play well in our last game to avoid the trap door. I think Chertsey SS will pip Woking SC A and Staines for second place but it is still all up for grabs and will make a fascinating last week of the season once again.
