Away Team Report:
In a bid for revenge following our closely fought 10-6 win at New Haw, Oatlands set up a full re-match of all the frames and but for a late winning surge by Lol they would have completed it. In the 1st frame both players played well and scored regularly if not heavily. Steve led all the way past 100 until a series of double baulks and no leaves allowed Dan to sneak past Steve and lead 127/115. As usual Steve fought all the way and came back again to lead in the 140’s but under great pressure Dan was able to score the 10 he needed and win a very close and entertaining frame by just 6 points. In frame 2 I got off to a bright start with a neat 29 and felt fairly confident. Unfortunately that was short-lived as (despite some rare good fortune) a series of very poor misses coupled with 2 good 20 breaks from Mark meant he lead by nearly 50 going past 100. Realising how badly I was playing I resorted to potting Mark’s white (probably as many times as I have all season) in order to slow him up. This worked for a while and despite playing like a complete muppet I began to catch him scoring in bits and pieces. Unfortunately another poor shot missing a double baulk allowed Mark the opportunity he needed to run out a deserved winner on the night. Frame 3 was another very close affair which, after Peter’s quick start was pulled back in the 50’s, neither player led by more than about 10. With Peter leading 142-135 Lol played an excellent double baulk which allowed him to then get close to the winning line. Peter missed his final scoring opportunities and Lol was able to win the frame and avert the 10 point loss. Matches are always tight between our respective teams going back several years and once again this was a close, exciting and enjoyable evening and produced what is probably a fair scoreline over the 2 matches.
