Away Team Report: The players were matched as I thought they would be with Paul Gardner playing myself first and having put in a lot of recent practice, I had high hopes of a good outcome. I think Paul must have also been practicing because he played very well and no matter what I did, I seemed to leave him a shot on after every visit. Even so you still have play well to get the breaks and play well he did, after 3 mid 20 breaks and 3 teens breaks I was left a little shell shocked and was quite proud of myself to reach 80+ and still have a chance of getting 2 points but it was not to be. Well played Paul. In the second frame Dan played Steve and whilst not being the best game was still an entertaining affair with Steve always being in front and no matter how hard he tried Dan could not close the gap and Steve ran out the worthy winner but Dan did well to secure 2 points. After the hors d`oeuvres came the main course, Mark L v Mark Mc. Would Mark L take revenge for being beaten by Mark Mc last year? ML broke off and in trying to leave the red in baulk inexplicably fluked the red into the middle pocket, his next shot left the two balls near the centre pocket and I thought ML was looking vulnerable but MM missed a regulation in off from his next shot and ML pounced and proceeded to make a 30+ break using the “floating white” technique but after trying to position the red for his next shot he somehow played the wrong ball and let MM have another chance and he scored a nice 16 before unluckily breaking down. After another 14 from ML, MM was left the yellow in the jaws and red on the spot and took the only option open to him and potted yellow to try to score from pot reds but missed a slow red to the corner left his white near the spot. OOPSI. Mark L didn`t need a second invitation and proceeded to make a superb 103unf break this time using the “postmans knock” technique and he never looked like missing. After watching this game it is evident that Mark L is playing better than ever and would doubt whether anyone will be able to beat him and will find it very difficult to even score 1 point from him and with his team mates playing very solidly Woking B must surely be favourites to win the league this year. It leaves us in a poor position after our first two games but I am sure we are playing well enough to get some telling results in future matches and climb the table. I would like to thank the Woking team for a wonderfully sporting and amicable evening and wish them the best for the rest of the season. Peter McIntyre
