Home Team Report: Firstly I had better report about the billiards which always seems to be secondary when we play the gentlemen from West Byfleet. We had not decided on any order of play but just wrote the names down at random. In the opener I played Martin and as seems to have happened a lot to us recently I went into a 30 or 40 point lead and when I reached 100, I just kept scoring 2s and 3s or nothing and Martin started to score more consistently and when the scores reached 140 all it was anybody’s game. I missed a pretty regulation cannon and Martin picked off a very nice 10 to win the game, a good and enjoyable game. In the second Dave was his usual ebullient self playing an open game but Mark, after a few recent disappointments, played very consistently including a nice 33 and a couple of 20s to win the game and Dave was unlucky rattling in offs and missing cannons by a whisker but was very gracious and generous in defeat. In the last game it was pretty apparent that Dan hadn’t played for a couple of weeks and struggled to score more than 4 at a time, with Michael scoring very consistently he built up a substantial lead which Dan could not close. Michael running out the worthy winner. On the billiards front it looks like a hard season for us but I know we can play better and I am sure we will get improved results in the coming weeks, as for the Byfleet team I am sure they will do well this season as they are playing very solidly. We then got down to some serious drinking and joke telling and as always whenever we play the “West Byfleet Lads” it was a great evening. Much credit to the Doherty brothers for their sporting attitude and to some other big bloke who came along with them. Peter McIntyre
