Home Team Report: Staines first game of the season saw the return of the former ladies world number 5 deputising for Alan who has work comittiments for the foreseeable future, her return not only to the league after some 4 seasons but to snooker in general was a daunting prospect & one she wasn’t relishing to much, Walch who has played on the 9 ball pool circuit for the last 5/6 years opted to play Barnard, the first frame certainly highlighted the rustiness as Barnard was presented with a number of chances, he promptly rattled in a 50 & that was that for frame one, frame two was a little more encouraging for Walch with a combination of the larger starting to kick in & Barnard not quite being as ruthless as in the first there were a number of half chances either side, around twenty behind Walch eventually had the balls in a very desirable position, she musted up a break of 24 but pushed the boat out attempting to continue & get her name on the register, this allowed Barnard to counter & he replied with a break of 30 but while on the green he also tried to continue the break & although potting the green he went in off in the corner pocket, with the ball in hand Walch could still win, but with the brown hampering her cueing Walch attempted the green to the black pocket & wobbled it, Barnard potted green & brown & the concession was upon us..2-0 Walton. Next up saw Fraser v Burgess the evening wasn’t getting any better for the home side as Burgess potted very well throughout never given Fraser any real guilt edge chances & 3 zip was notched up, Fraser not one to roll over steadied the ship controlling frame four with an early break of 25 & rolls were reversed from the previous frame..3-1 Last up Connors & Gibbs, after Gibbs opening shot of foul & a miss which (“Walch the referee” had no idea where the ball had to be replaced to) Gibbs potted well, he established a forty point lead by halfway & was well in control, but eventually Connors found some form & with two twenty odd contributions he hit the front, after a lengthy safety exchange on the brown it was Gibbs who cracked first & Connors potted down to the pink for frame…3-2, the last frame started with Gibbs getting in early again but as the first couldn’t maintain the early frame pressure & Connors battled back to hit the front once more, Connors should have put the frame to bed but missed a routine blue while clearing up but luckily for him the blue went safe, after a few safety shots each Connors potted blue & pink for frame & by hook or by crook 3 each was shaken on. Pleasant evening once again with the Walton chaps….all the very best to Craig & his good lady who are tying the knot Friday…good luck to them both !!
