Away Team Report:
This week’s encounter for Staines was v the “Icelandic” Oatlands troops thus being a slight issue on the heating front making conditions a little tricky, this never deterred the Staines team & they remain unbeaten in six. The opener saw Connors take on Mark Mc, the jovial pair who were constantly ribbing one another throughout fought out a close attacking frame with Connors hitting the front early thanks to a number of fifteen breaks, but Mark pegged him back & found himself three behind on the green, Mark took on a long range green to the yellow pocket but missed & left Connors the green just off straight to the black pocket, Connors sunk the green & cleared to the pink & in typical “O’Sullivan” fashion left the dead straight black to register on the break board. Frame two was similar to the first but Connors this time placing Mark in a number of nasty snookers & scoring from them although not setting the world alight, Mark did have a couple of good chances in & around the black but weather frost bite had set in by then it wasn’t to be & it was 2 zip to the away boys/girls...next saw Walch against Pete Mc, Walch struck first & got herself around 15-20 points to the good, but Pete was in no mood to roll over & with some outstanding pots hit the front, approx half way through the frame both players had to take a break this was due to “laughter” when for some apparent reason Walch ask Pete to play again, (the situation had been Pete had a red in the jaws of the black pocket but was semi snookered on it, he tried to play cushion first but missed the red over the hole but in doing so cannoned into a cluster of reds by the pink Walch in her wisdom studied the table for a few minutes & couldn’t make her mind up what to play so asked Pete to play again)....I mean she just can’t quite grasp the rules of this snooker malarkey...well after the whole room picked themselves up from off the floor Pete continued to thump in pot after pot & reduced the score to 2-1, Walch channelled all that embarrassment into positive play in the next & was starting to find a bit of zest, she bossed the frame from the outset & Pete required a snooker on the last red, after Walch fouled & left a free ball & oh thanks to Dan for pointing that out to Pete he could win again but Walch has been around the block to many times to allow a chance of winning her second frame of the season slip away she potted frame ball once more & 3-1 it was, last but not least Reeves v Fraser, after Dan had done a couple of laps of the table & some warming up exercises he rattled in a cracking 38 break from no where, the early part of the frame had been scrappy but Dan put pay to that & a few pots later it was 3-2, the last frame saw Fraser get in early with a break of 32 which had the potential of being many more, only for Dan to hit back with two high teen breaks to edge back in front, the frame swung one way & then the other no more then when on the brown, Dan had potted a good green to leave a thin cut back on the brown, he potted the brown but unfortunately for him went in off in the middle pocket, with the ball in hand a relieved Fraser potted brown to pink for frame, 4-2 it was but only just !!!.

Another splendid evening in the company of the likable Oatlands team, shame we didn’t have time to do the double & whip your backsides on the dart board...John Part’s bang out of form with the arrows & I could only see more doom & gloom for that lad !!!!! All the best, see you for the return in the new year.
